Becoming More Eco Conscious

Hey friends! This is not a fad post or saying that I’m swearing off meat, cars, and whatever else makes some people mad these days. What I have done is taken a few steps that are super simple to help do my part in how wasteful we can be.

These are some things you can easily do as well in your own home to create less waste. So why not!?

The first thing I’ve done is trying to not use plastic bags from the grocery store. I do forget my reusable bags on occasion but this is such a simple switch plus those plastic bags always rip and either spill my groceries. Or they get holes in them so I can’t reuse them in my small trash and or for cleaning out the litter box. Which is what I would normally use those bags for. So last time I was at TJMaxx I picked up a large reusable bag for .99 cents! Such a deal because it’s huge! I keep it in my truck for anytime I’m out and happen to shop or need to carry multiple things. It’s great to have on hand for so many things as well like dirty clothes from kids. Ya never know when a blowout or overfill bladder will get the best of you.

The next thing I’ve done is I stopped buying paper plates or styrofoam plates. We have a set of ceramic plates and washing off a plate after a meal literally takes 20 seconds. I found that people would grab a throw away plate for anything, like a sandwich and it wouldn’t get dirty and then throw it away. Such a waste! So this helps out the earth and your wallet!

Next up I’ve stopped with dryer sheets. You can pick up wool balls at Walmart or TJMaxx and they are reusable! Put a little essential oil on them and it leaves your clothes smelling amazing plus it helps dry your clothes quicker! Again this is a great option to save a little money.

So normally in our house we drink tap water. It’s never bothered me and it’s obviously the best option vs. buying plastic bottles. I actually hate when people buy packs of water because it is completely wasteful. I use a metal water bottle and fill it up all day never creating waste. But!! Where we moved our water is strange. It is clean and safe to drink but it is a light tan color and has a very distinct taste that I just can’t get into. So I began saving my milk jugs and instead of throwing them out I clean them and take them to the store to refill with purified water. It costs less than buying gallons of water and again I have little to no waste.

The last thing I’m working on in my house is to rid our house of paper towels. I literally never use them. My husband on the other hand does. I just don’t make a mess and if I do or my kids do I use a wet towel and clean up. I find paper towels so pointless.

So that’s it for now! As I continue to make greener choices and changes I will keep you updated!
