How I pumped over 450oz in 1 month!

Hello friends! A month ago I gave birth to the perfect little girl. From those first moments of trying to breastfeed we had issues. She just wouldn’t latch well and it caused me intense pain. The first night we were home from the hospital I just couldn’t take it anymore. Just know that breastfeeding shouldn’t cause you serious pain. That night, after attempting to feed and getting mad at my husband and the baby I said I just couldn’t do it. I didn’t want to give up but being angry and tired and in pain was not a sustainable way to live. I immediately pulled out my pump and decided to start pumping exclusively. This is just the inside freezer. Our deep freeze is filled with target bags full of milk!

Exclusively pumping

As soon as I made that decision I felt a weight lifted and was immediately happier. I could feed my baby, still give breast milk, and my husband could help out more. Also formula is very expensive so being able to save money was a huge plus. So over the past month I have been able to pump enough for baby to eat all day/night and store up a stash of over 450oz!! Here is exactly what I do and what works for me.

  • Water water water! I’ll get this one out of the way because it’s the most obvious. I drink a minimum of 16oz each time I pump. Pumping makes me super thirsty. I keep a 32oz jug with me and drink all day and night.
  • Pumping of course. Get a good pump, I use the Medela pump in style. I also purchased a car adapter so I could never miss a pump. I pump every 3 hours around the clock. I set alarms to go off on my watch so I’m always aware. I know it seems like a lot but pumping takes a major commitment. For me it’s easy to remember 12, 3, 6, 9 for the times I pump. It also helps to use some lanolin on the flanges to make pumping more comfortable.
  • I drink one body armor drink everyday. Some people claim it boosts milk supply. I find that it helps break up the water drinking with something flavorful. They taste amazing and have milk boosting ingredients like coconut water.
  • I eat oatmeal each morning. It’s filling, helps milk production and I think it helps with weight. I made tons of lactation cookies with my first baby and found that I couldn’t lose weight and even gained and so I was not letting that happen this time.
  • Sunflower lecithin. I ordered mine on amazon. This is supposed to have some great health benefits and also helps prevent mastitis. I would suggest, if you get the liquid form, to just take a spoonful and not mix it in food or smoothies. It is a thickening agent and it can ruin your smoothie or food in my opinion.
  • I always have my Arbonne protein shake a day. It gets my fruits and veggies in as well as my protein and fiber and pre and probiotics each day! Plus it tastes amazing. Get it here! Click the link to get yours or message me for more details!
    Sleep!!

These are my tips and tricks to building your stash and making pumping work for you! I will continue to update and I continue my journey

Hospital packing list baby #2!

Hello friends! I know I have written this before with my first baby but I wanted to write an updated one for the second time around. Keep in mind it is always a good idea to ask your doctor what you need to pack. My hospital is really awesome and provides almost everything needed, I’m sure yours does too. No need to over pack!

  • Alright so you obviously need a duffle bag or small suitcase to pack everything into! I use this one I have from Lucky Brand.
  • In my bag I have packed a cute plaid shirt to go home in. It is a maternity shirt that buttons. I wanted to make sure I had something that fit, made me feel put together, and was breastfeeding friendly. You probably won’t leave the hospital looking like you did before you ever got pregnant so plan for a pooch still.
  • Granny panties. Really you just need some full coverage, comfy panties that can hold large pads during recovery.
I picked up this belly binder from amazon. Only 13$! This will help shrink your uterus and get your tummy back to its original size. As soon as I am in recovery I plan on putting this bad boy on!
A comfy nursing bra that can be slept in. I found mine on amazon for so cheap!
This time I packed some tall compression socks because last time my feet, ankles, and legs got soo swollen. It was very painful and looked horrendous. And hospitals are cold so better to be prepared lol.
  • I packed a set of pajamas that button up so I can be comfy in my own clothes after the IV’s come out and I get that first shower! Plus the buttons allow easy access for breastfeeding.
  • Lastly for myself I packed toiletries: toothbrush and toothpaste, shampoo and conditioner, hairbrush, skincare, light makeup, hair ties and my glasses.

Your hospital should provide giant pads, pain relief, ice packs, sitz bath, dermoplast, witch hazel pads… mine did, I literally didn’t need to bring anything, they even had mesh undies to wear. Some people hate them but I am all for not ruining anything of my own, use the hospitals! My hospital also fed me really well and the food was good so there was no need for bringing snacks!

For Baby:

  • I packed 2 outfits- one in newborn size and one 0-3m. Along with the outfits I packed matching bows. I know there will be lots of pictures!
  • I packed a swaddle for pictures and a thin muslin blanket for coming home.
  • Car seat

Other than clothes and a car seat you really have no need to pack other items. The hospital will have diapers, wipes, baby wash and lotion, anything you will need. And you get to bring all the extras home!

Extras:

  • Phone and phone charger
  • Camera
  • Donut pillow- giving birth makes it feel like your tail bone is broken. At least it did for me. I got a pillow specially for my poor bum.
  • Pillow- with your own unique case
  • Clothes for dad- if your husband or SO is anything like mine, make him pack his own bag! My husband over packs so much and it drives me crazy!

You can always keep some extras in your car if you really think you’ll need them.

Happy Valentines Day

Hello friends! I hope you all have an amazing day! I’m spending it at home with my 2 year old. Playing and cleaning and still trying to get my house ready for a brand new baby! Tomorrow I will be 34 weeks pregnant and to be honest I can not wait to not be pregnant. The end of pregnancy is all not being able to breath, starving but not being able to eat alto much or you’ll feel miserable and all your joints hurting.

3 more weeks and I’ll be technically full term but 5 weeks until we induce unless this little bunny wants to come early. I have started packing my hospital bag just Incase and because I do everything early! I’ll be doing an updated post on what’s in my hospital bag for second baby and an updated diaper bag since I’ll have a newborn and a toddler.

I have been so exhausted and in pain lately I have slacked on writing but I’m trying!! As well as attempting potty training which is just a nightmare.

Till next time my friends!

Spontaneous Trip, Orange Beach

Hey friends! Happy Monday, hope your day is going good. I unfortunately got a stomach bug and have been feeling not so hot. Anyways last week my husband randomly said we should go on a trip. He normally talks himself out of these things when he brings them up so I was just letting him run wild until he said he booked a hotel and took a day of leave from work Friday.

Thursday afternoon we drove over to orange beach, al. And stayed in the Hampton suites on the beach. It’s off season so we got a great deal. We wanted to go somewhere before the new baby arrived but didn’t want to push it too close to my due date. It was such a great trip! Yes it was a little chilly but we went for good food and boy did we get it!

I’m calling it a babymoon. I think they are a little ridiculous to take a “honeymoon” while pregnant to Luxury places because you can’t drink, eat certain things, ride rides… all depending on where you go. But we are close to the beach so it wasn’t a far drive and we really enjoyed our time.

The restaurants you gotta go to if you decide to visit orange beach are : wolf bay lodge- amazing sea food! I had a great lobster and even my son ate a bunch of shrimp, I was shocked!

The gulf was a great outdoor restaurant, so if you want to have your toes in the sand and eat awesome food you gotta visit here! The place was so cool and the food was so good!

Bahama Bobs was a total hole in the wall but those places are always the best! We got the best fried fish and oysters and the Mac n cheese and green beans were like my granny made them!!

Last place was Rotolo’s. It’s a pizza place but everything is homemade and amazing!!! Hunter got wings while I got a pizza. We both were so floored with how much we loved it!

So if y’all are in the area or want to take the trip the food alone is worth it!!!
