Thanksgiving Fashion

Good morning everyone! Who is ready for the holidays? I am soo beyond ready! Many of you know we have been renovating our house a bit and it’s starting to come together. Hopefully a large chunk will be done before Thanksgiving.

I love the holidays! I love cooking and decorating, getting dressed up and hosting people over. This is one of the first holiday times that we aren’t traveling and we are doing everything in our own home!

So I wanted to share this super cute outfit and makeup look for this holiday season. I got this cute, festive vest from amazon! Great find. I’m obsessed with my over the knee boots I got from kohl’s. And jeans and blue top are both from lucky brand. I threw a slight wave in my hair with my curling wand. Lipstick is from dose of colors. A red lip is always a great choice. Truly my favorite accessory. Eyes are morphe eye shadows and lashaholic lashes! So simple and yet classic and beautiful!

What do y’all think about this holiday look I put together? I will continue to put some more of these together for y’all! And I always post makeup looks on instagram! So follow me on there!

Super Simple, but Super delicious Chicken Tortilla Soup

Happy Tuesday! Today I’m going to share with you my recipe to make this awesome soup that is perfect for bigger families or to be eaten on for a few days. It gave me and my husband 3 days worth of dinner and we definitely fill our bowls too full.

You probably don’t know but I have a secret love affair with my crockpot. I’m not sure why but I have always loved using my crockpot. Who doesn’t love being able to throw everything in a big pot, toss on a lid and let it do its thing. Hours later you open it up and voila dinner is done, perfect and ready to eat!

So for this recipe make sure you have a fairly large crockpot. I have made the mistake of trying to put it in a smaller one and it does not fit!! I apologize I don’t know what size my crockpot is, I can’t find it on the pot anywhere.

Chicken Tortilla Soup

Ingredients:

  • 4 uncooked boneless, skinless chicken breast halves- you can really do whatever amount of chicken you prefer.
  • 2 cans of beans- I use 2 cans of mixed beans. It has black beans, pinto and kidney beans already in one can! I love it. Use whatever you like. Black beans are traditional but I like variety.
  • 1 can green chilies
  • 2 cans of rotel tomatoes
  • 1 cup of your favorite salsa
  • 1 15oz can of tomato sauce
  • Whatever toppings you like- cheese, tortilla chips, sour cream…

Combine all the above ingredients except the toppings in your crockpot. No need to drain any of the cans.

Cover and cook on low for 8hrs. You can stir and the chicken should shred super easily. I think this soup gets better day after day.

Then enjoy!

Becoming More Eco Conscious

Hey friends! This is not a fad post or saying that I’m swearing off meat, cars, and whatever else makes some people mad these days. What I have done is taken a few steps that are super simple to help do my part in how wasteful we can be.

These are some things you can easily do as well in your own home to create less waste. So why not!?

The first thing I’ve done is trying to not use plastic bags from the grocery store. I do forget my reusable bags on occasion but this is such a simple switch plus those plastic bags always rip and either spill my groceries. Or they get holes in them so I can’t reuse them in my small trash and or for cleaning out the litter box. Which is what I would normally use those bags for. So last time I was at TJMaxx I picked up a large reusable bag for .99 cents! Such a deal because it’s huge! I keep it in my truck for anytime I’m out and happen to shop or need to carry multiple things. It’s great to have on hand for so many things as well like dirty clothes from kids. Ya never know when a blowout or overfill bladder will get the best of you.

The next thing I’ve done is I stopped buying paper plates or styrofoam plates. We have a set of ceramic plates and washing off a plate after a meal literally takes 20 seconds. I found that people would grab a throw away plate for anything, like a sandwich and it wouldn’t get dirty and then throw it away. Such a waste! So this helps out the earth and your wallet!

Next up I’ve stopped with dryer sheets. You can pick up wool balls at Walmart or TJMaxx and they are reusable! Put a little essential oil on them and it leaves your clothes smelling amazing plus it helps dry your clothes quicker! Again this is a great option to save a little money.

So normally in our house we drink tap water. It’s never bothered me and it’s obviously the best option vs. buying plastic bottles. I actually hate when people buy packs of water because it is completely wasteful. I use a metal water bottle and fill it up all day never creating waste. But!! Where we moved our water is strange. It is clean and safe to drink but it is a light tan color and has a very distinct taste that I just can’t get into. So I began saving my milk jugs and instead of throwing them out I clean them and take them to the store to refill with purified water. It costs less than buying gallons of water and again I have little to no waste.

The last thing I’m working on in my house is to rid our house of paper towels. I literally never use them. My husband on the other hand does. I just don’t make a mess and if I do or my kids do I use a wet towel and clean up. I find paper towels so pointless.

So that’s it for now! As I continue to make greener choices and changes I will keep you updated!

Home Decor!

As some of you know we recently moved and bought a new home. Well new to us, but the house looks very 70’s in some rooms so this post will be in parts. Our yard is simply beautiful but the inside of the house needed some TLC.

While my husband was away for work my mother came down and helped me decorate the house and help with the kids. So grateful because my kids can be quite the handful when they choose. Isn’t that how it always is? Be crazy when dad is away.. anyways I wanted to share some fun wall art pieces that I picked up and put up around the house.

yes some of my walls are not the greatest of color but that will be another times project. I will share more complete images once I have the house together completely! But I love this little welcome sign I place right in the front entry way. You will see most pieces I have picked up will be wood and galvanized metal and tin. I love the rustic, farmhouse feel. This piece I absolutely love. I have tons of mason jars and even though it says it’s a candle holder I see flowers in these jars. What do you think?I got both of these tin/wood signs and placed each appropriately in the laundry and bathroom. I love them! They are pretty big so they add to the space without needing more or leaving too much blank space. Each one of these came from TJMaxx. I am all about a great deal and where I live, TJMaxx is pretty much the only store! They were all such a great deal how could I pass them up? Let me share a couple more items I grabbed!I am all about these metal mugs. I literally went through and pretty much got rid of all other coffee cups. Plus these can’t break and I am a total klutz. I freaked out when I saw the store had more and had to bring them home. The littlest things make me so happy!I also picked up this little crate to sit in the bathroom. The kids bathroom is pretty small so I use this to keep the space looking clean and oraganized. I keep the kids washcloths in it as well as wet wipes, extra toilet paper, q-tips..etc. This last picture shows my dining table. I picked up the runner at TJMaxx but the salt and pepper shakers, metal pitcher, and floral arrangement all came from Walmart. I feel Walmart really stepping up lately with what they offer. Everything is so cute, super budget friendly and fits my farmhouse theme perfectly!

I can’t wait to share more as I complete DIYs and other home projects and as we get renovations done! So stay tuned!

Potty Training a Stubborn Boy

Let me just say potty training is the worst! And those of you who had perfectly easy children with 0 accidents I envy you. I have been attempting potty training on and off for over a year. Yes you read that right. And when it comes down to it the main thing I learned was that your child has to be ready and you have to be ready.

So Monday morning I decided I was ready and I felt my son was too. But most importantly I was ready. We have been living in a hotel that is very similar to an apartment over the past, almost, 2 months. This place has cement floors so I decided to use this to my advantage. Monday morning I took all his diapers away. I hid them and told him NO MORE! Keep in mind over the past year I have tried every potty training method there is. Naked, bribes, potty chairs, big celebrations. . The list goes on.

My mother got a pack of his favorite character underwear. In our case my little one is Obsessed with superhero’s and loves Spider-Man most of all. I told him that superhero’s use the potty and do not pee in their pants. I also told him not to pee on Spider-Man because that’s not nice!

I drink a ton of water myself so I simply took him to the potty each time I went and had him pee. He will usually go every time for me. I still always ask him a million times a day if he needs to go. Sometimes he says yes, sometimes no, and sometimes he just pulls his underwear off and heads towards the bathroom. A few random times he’s told me he had to go. When he does I make the most insanely huge deal. I clap, I high five, I hoop and holler and I let him pick out a sticker to put on a big poster board so he can see all the good jobs he has done! And when he poops on the potty I have a bucket of hot wheels that I let him pick one.

100% do not give in to diapers. Unless you or your little one is just not ready. I quit many times because I wasn’t ready. During nap time and at night I do use a pull up but I have explained he can’t pee in them and that they are sleeping underwear. They also have a character on them so again I tell him not to pee on chase or Marshall (paw patrol). He goes all night with out peeing. So we have had great success but it’s not perfect. The main thing is he is learning and I am not spending tons of money on diapers! Stickers are so much cheaper lol!

I hope some of these ideas work for you! Let me know in the comments and any questions you may have. And yes I still leave the house whenever I want. I’ve read methods where they don’t leave for days. I left day 1, twice! I took him to pee before we left and if I’m gone longer than an hour I take him in the store and then when we get home.
