Stocking Up, Baby Prepping

Okay baby prepping sounds a bit like dooms day prepping but let me tell you some pros and cons to this practice. Of course every mom wants to be prepped and ready to go for baby to come but don’t get to crazy. Sure you will more than likely get lots of the same things at your baby shower and that is great if it is things like diapers and baby lotion and soap. But if you are going out to stock up hear this first, don’t go crazy.Screen Shot 2017-04-04 at 6.56.41 AM

I have be asked before how much of certain items babies go through and really there isn’t a ton. They are small creatures, no reason to go out and make sure you have 5 baby soaps and lotions on deck. My suggestion is to have enough to make it through about 6-8 weeks. This gets you through your postpartum time. I personally use the classic johnson’s and aveeno. When it comes to diapers I personally like buying in bulk. I would suggest if you want to stock up getting one big box of size 1-3. You will definitely need more, trust me but you don’t want to end up with tons of diapers in the wrong size left over. I can happily say so far I have not had one leftover, wrong sized diaper. I got tons of newborn packs at my baby shower and depending on how big your baby was when they were born you may not need a ton of newborn size. My son was almost 9 pounds so we used a few packs of newborn but didn’t need a huge box.

Wipes are also something I always keep in bulk. If you make sure the refill pack is sealed then they last! I have never had a problem. HUGGIES Natural Care Baby Wipes are my personal favorite. I know I have said it before but I am not sponsored, I just really like huggies better than any other brand I have tried.

The only other thing I keep stocked up on is formula. I will share my experience with breastfeeding in another post. I wish I could have kept it up longer but I just wasn’t producing enough. I made it 4 months and had to start supplementing and eventually go to all formula feeding. Anyways.. Gerber Good Start Gentle Non-GMO Powder Infant Formula, Stage 1(Pack of 6) is what works best for my little man. I went through a lot of trial and error and then also searched every store and online outlet for the best deal, because formula is so expensive!! Amazon, tried and trusty, had the best deal plus free shipping! Also if you are going to use formula or if you are pumping you gotta make sure you have bottles! Dr. Browns makes my personal favorite bottle.

What do you stay stocked up on? Let me know what you think in the comments!

I Finally Got It!!!!!!

Guys I finally got it. What you ask? My dream diaper bag!! It was a little on the pricier side when it comes to some diaper bags but just wait! If you are interested in getting your own you can find it here : timi & leslie Rachel 7-Piece Diaper Bag Set, Caramel. Okay so this bag is awesome. first it is vegan leather and my favorite thing is that it looks like a beautiful purse, not a diaper bag. I personally feel like the diaper bags you see in stores are plastic-y and bulky. IMG_0828

It comes in 4 colors, I chose the caramel color. It is 159$ but I have to say it is totally worth it. It comes with a detachable shoulder strap so that you can wear it as a crossbody if you choose. It also comes with 2 stroller straps so you can easily attach it to your stroller. You also get an insulated bottle tote to keep babies bottle warm or cool. A zippered sac is also inside to place any soiled clothes that may happen throughout the day and a changing pad that has a spot to hold diapers is also inside. There is also a super cute matching wristlet for mom inside!FullSizeRender(9)(Picture credit: Timi and Leslie)

The bag itself has 5 large pockets on the inside and 4 super cute pockets on the outside. The handle is braided. The whole bag is water resistant and literally fits everything! There is even a key chain clip on the inside so you won’t loose your keys!!IMG_0827I seriously am so glad I finally broke down and got this bag. It took me weeks to finally commit to this purchase. Check out my video to get an updated version of what’s in my diaper bag!! Click Here!

Please let me know what bags you are loving!!!

What to Expect After Birth

The scary part is giving birth right? Nope, not in my opinion. The healing afterwards is way worse. There are definitely some things you can do to make it a little better though. As I have said before, take what you can and as much as you can from the hospital!! You just pushed a bowling ball out of your hoo-ha, of course you are gonna have some pain and recovery unless you are a super model with some super powers. In that case I applaud you. Things that make things a lot easier:

  1. //ws-na.amazon-adsystem.com/widgets/q?ServiceVersion=20070822&OneJS=1&Operation=GetAdHtml&MarketPlace=US&source=ac&ref=tf_til&ad_type=product_link&tracking_id=mommy409-20&marketplace=amazon&region=US&placement=B002MCD16O&asins=B002MCD16O&linkId=12d2d06368122ad0a3d637161b0e3121&show_border=false&link_opens_in_new_window=false&price_color=333333&title_color=0066c0&bg_color=ffffff Dermoplast cooling spray. Emphasis on the cooling. This stuff is bomb at relieving the stinging from stitches.
  2. Tucks Medicated Pads– Witch hazel pads keeps everything cool and clean. They will probably give you a small thing of these at the hospital and if you have any issues with your bum, this will make everything better.
  3. Carex Sitz Bath– These things look ridiculous but I tell you what they feel pretty great when you can’t do a lot of scrubbing down there. Trust me it’s cheap and helps the stitches heal up.
  4. Ibuprofen- for when everything still hurts.
  5. Mom Panties- Trust me you don’t want to ruin your nice skivvies, go to wally world and get you a pack of what I call mom panties. They are comfy and necessary to hold those jumbo pads from the hospital.

These are a few necessities from my experience. It isn’t that bad. They best thing I was told to prepare myself was that your butt is going to hurt. It feels like your tailbone got broken. But everything is worth it when you have your little!!!

Leave me comments about what you thought was necessary after birth!!

Baby Registry List

Hey everyone! So I decided to put together what I think is the most important items to register for. As you know I am a compulsive list maker. I make lists for absolutely everything and then some. So I wanted to make this list for my first time mommas or those who wanted a more condensed list of what is necessary and what is nice extras.

I personally registered mostly at Target and they give a fantastic free goodie bag when you register with them. It’s a bag with a bottle, nursing pads, a Paci, lots of coupons, and lots of other samples including Honest diapers and wipes! I also registered at babies r us which I honestly only got my furniture, rocker, and stroller from. It also seemed that no one really shopped there but it was definitely worth getting those big ticket items because I ended up getting babies r us rewards which for me ended up being a 100$!  Another great place to register that gives free goodies is buy buy baby. I didn’t register there because there is not one anywhere near me.

Alright so here is my bare minimum list of what to register for or make sure you get before baby!

1. Diapers and wipes! Of course you are going to be going through a lot of these. Some people like to stock up (like me) and others just get a few packs to start of because you never really know what sizes you will exactly need or how fast baby will grow.

2. A Crib or safe place for baby to sleep. I personally got the sorelle vista elite from babies r us. This particular one is a convertible crib so my baby can grow with the bed. A mattress does not typically come with the crib so you will have to purchase this separately. There are of course much less expensive and much more expensive cribs. Some people like to have a bassinet in their room for the baby to sleep when you first bring him home before transferring him to the crib. I bought a graco pack n play that had a bassinet built in to put in my room. I found this to be a less expensive option especially since we travel a lot and the pack n play will easily go with us.

3. A Carseat. Alright so this one is pretty self explanatory. You can not bring your baby home without one. I chose a combo option where you get the carseat and stroller together. This is another one of those things that you can spend a lot of money or not as much. I knew for myself I wanted to get a jogger stroller so I purchased the Baby Trend Expedition GLX travel system. I love it. It was super easy for me to put together and collapses easy too! Installing the car seat in the car was very easy as well. Not that it is necessary but the stroller has great options like bluetooth and storage space.

4. Onsies. Now I put this on the main list because we can’t have naked babies 24/7! But when I say don’t register for clothes, it is because that is about 70% of what you will get at your baby shower if you choose to have one. I had 3 because my family being in Ohio and Tennessee and me and my husband living in Florida and majority of what I got was clothing. Our parents purchased a couple big items for us like the crib, dresser, and rocker.

Now this is extreme minimalist list. Below I am going to quickly add items to the list that I am soooo happy that I have and glad I got.

1. Diaper bag- see my last post all about diaper bags

2. Diaper Genie– a lot of people say you don’t necessarily need and you probably don’t but I am so glad I do. I use this non stop and I literally never ever smell diapers!

3. Changing Pad- I got one of these with a few covers instead of a changing table. It sits right on top of the dresser we got and saves space.

4. Baby Carrier- I got the Eddie Bauer one, it wasn’t crazy expensive and is more versatile. I am not a fan of the wraps you have to tie yourself. *I put this on here because people seem to be loving the baby wearing trend. I have this carrier and I never use it. I prefer to just hold Knox personally.

5. Bumbo- I got the one with the tray table. This saves me from having to buy a highchair which will take more room and save money!

6. Rocker/Glider– I don’t think this is completely necessary personally and I don’t think I would have purchased one myself but my mother in law got it for me. I do love it but not 100% necessary.

7. Bottles- This will depend on if you are breast or formula feeding. I think it is a good idea to have some on hand either way. I love the Dr. Brown bottles the best. I plan on breast feeding but didn’t put a pump on here because most insurance companies cover them these days.

8. Blankets- I wouldn’t spend much time registering for many, you will get a lot of blankets at baby showers too! But you do have to have some of them!

9. Bath Stuff- Baby wash, shampoo, lotion, clippers, thermometer, etc.. A clean baby is a happy baby!

10. Feeding Stuff- plates, spoons, cups.. It’s never to early to stock up!

So this is my list. Of course you can add tons more things these days. There is a gadget for literally everything!! I don’t think it is completely necessary to overwhelm yourself with buying everything you see or someone tells you about. Get what you think you will use or need. I hope this was helpful!!

Please leave me comments and tell me what you really wanted on your registry!

As always I am not sponsored by any of the brands listed. These are what I like or have used and what has worked for me!

Finding the Best Diaper Bag

Finding the perfect diaper bag can be super difficult! Trust me I am still looking every time I go out shopping. Here are some of the bags that I have found that are pretty great and might fit your style. They are a range of prices and styles so maybe you will find one that you love!

  1. Boxy Backpack- Petunia Pickle Bottom– Okay hold on to your wallet, this bag is pricey! The Petunia Pickle Bottom bags are great and come in so many colors and styles to choose from. I like backpack styles because they are easy to throw on while juggling baby.
  2. Downtown Tote- Petunia Pickle Bottom– This is another style of the PPB collection. It is a little less expensive than the previous style but still gives you that purse feel. My biggest problem for diapers bags personally is I don’t want to feel like I am carrying luggage and this style is like carrying a purse with lots of pockets.
  3. Ju Ju Be Diaper Bag– This bag still is on the pricey side but it is another great back pack style. It has insulated pockets for bottles, a memory foam changing pad, and an anti-microbial lining. Overall a very cool style if you are willing to spend a little money.
  4. Skip Hop Diaper Bag– Finally we are under 100$!! This bag is pretty cool because it has large separated sections with one being specially designed for mom! It has 11 pockets and is waterproof which is everything. Babies are wet creatures haha!
  5. Oh Joy! Back pack– This is a style extremely similar to the first bag on the list from petunia pickle bottom. It is a boxy backpack style and it is big enough to fit everything and the colors are so pretty!
  6. Fashion Mummy Nappy Bag– This bag is probably my favorite for the price. It is a good size, again a backpack style (Sorry!) and comes in 5 or 6 colors. It has bottle holders and pockets so you can fit and organize everything!
  7. Thirty-one Utility Tote– This one is so affordable and you can pick from lots of styles. I have this one myself and though I don’t carry it on a daily basis because of the size, it does make a great car bag. Keep a set of everything you could need (see my packing a diaper bag post) in the bag in the car and you are always set.
  8. Most affordable option!– So this is actually what I have and use on the daily. I bought a inexpensive purse organizer off of amazon and put it in my purse that I have had for years and call it a day. It keeps everything I need for baby in one spot and I can easily pull it out and take it where I need if needed.

Of course I could go on and on about all the bags out there. There are a million! Please let me know what kind you got and what your favorites are!

I am not sponsored by any of these brands. These are my own opinions and what I thought would be great to share with you.

Pack List for Road Trips

Packing for long trips is not always easy if you are a last minute packer. Being 4 hours on the highways deep is not the time you want to realize that you forgot something. Luckily for you friends I am a crazy compulsive list maker!! I am getting ready for a trip to Ohio to see my family and friends and being the crazy list maker/packer I am, I have already packed my 3.5 month old son and myself! Here is my pack list for babies:

  • Clothing and socks- 7-10 outfits (We will be out of town for a little over a week and have access to a washer and dryer) My rule of thumb is about 3-4 outfits more than the days you will be gone if you can’t wash clothes.
  • Nightys– I love these things! Trust me if you have to change a diaper in the middle of the night the last thing you want to mess with is zippers and snaps. These are a must!
  • Burp Cloths and Bibs. I have said it before, I like using cloth diapers for burp cloths and these bibs are bomb! My baby boy is beginning to teeth so this catches the drool and gives him something to “chew” on.
  • Diapers and Wipes– a must. I am a huggies girl personally, but you use what you like of course!
  • Soap, Lotion and gel– I like to use aveeno because bubby is so dry and I like that aveeno is a more natural option and the baby oil gel keeps him moisturized all day.
  • Towels and Wash rags– Of course you don’t necessarily need a baby version, you can use regular towels and wash rags but if you have the space to pack and want to you have that option.
  • Bottles and a cleaning brush- These are my favorite bottles. Of course you don’t need to bring bottles if you exclusively breastfeed.
  • Formula- If you formula feed or supplement then you will need to bring this!
  • Pack n Play– So I am not a huge fan of these because I guess I always think of people putting their babies in them and using them like a dog kennel. But I do use it while traveling so bubby will have his own bed. He is too big for the bassinet part so that stays home.
  • Pacifiers, hair brush, saline spray, and vit. d drops- basics we use everyday, vit. d drops if you breast feed.
  • Breast Pump– if you breastfeed or pump. I am an exclusive pumper. I’ll share my story sometime! I really love my medela.
  • Car seat- is a must
  • Stroller- if you need, I don’t use mine much
  • Bottle Warmer– Not necessary but it is nice to have when you are reheating breast milk.
  • Baby Monitor– I put Bubby down for a nap and stay up later than his bed time so having his monitor is great!

That is pretty much it guys! I know it seems like a lot but I get it packed in Small Getaway bag from Lucky Brand. Lucky is my favorite brand but before you see this price and judge me, I got one like this but it is an old style they don’t sell anymore and I got it on clearance!!

If you would like me to send you my list in a PDF form just comment or email me and I would be more than happy to send you a check list. If you think I forgot anything let me know! I was going for more of the things that are needed not extras. Like of course I will bring some toys but its not necessary.

x0x0 Erin

Also I am not sponsored by any of these brands. I just shared what I personally use and love and what works for my family. Target is the main store I have to shop at in my town so if I don’t get my stuff from there then I get it from amazon and occasionally walmart.

Packing a diaper bag

When it comes to packing a diaper bag, it goes with my personal life philosophy: Less is More. What’s in my diaper bag? Click here if you wanna check out a video I made about my diaper bag vs. my husbands. It is bad quality, just a warning, I got a new camera and I’m still learning to perfect things so don’t judge me too much!

Anyways let’s dive in!!

Packing a diaper bag shouldn’t be a difficult thing. Of course we all want to be prepared for every situation that could possibly happen. I think you can pack for what you are going to be doing. Me, with my less is more philosophy, like to adjust for what I am going to be doing. So of course it wouldn’t be a diaper bag without diapers. That is the #1 necessity and with diapers you have to have wipes. Now for a lot of situations I say you can stop there. Running quickly to get take-out or groceries? What more do you really need? Going to be out a little longer I like to add a few items. Burp cloths are a must with any drooly baby like I have right now, I use the cloth diapers I linked above because they work the best, are larger, and cheaper than regular burp cloths you can buy. I like to keep a Paci (my fav) on deck just in case of a melt down, and a change of clothes in case of a blow out (unfortunately they happen). This is really all you need. If you are going on a longer trip then I would add a bottle and formula or breast milk for when baby gets hungry. I will be posting my pack list for road trips in a later post so stay tuned!

If you watch my video you will see that I have not found a diaper bag that I love because they are all too big and bulky and just don’t fit my life style. I did get this one in a different pattern at my baby shower and I do love it but I use it only for traveling.

As always guys please enjoy and leave me comments on your must haves in your diaper bag. Give me a follow to stay up to date on all the things going on in my world of crafts, baby, mommy, beauty, and much more!
