Breastfeeding Ain’t Easy!

Breastfeeding is hard people! I commend those who make it through a whole year or even longer! I wasn’t able to sadly. I have posted before about milk supply boosters which are great and tasty! I wanted to share my story and journey with breastfeeding. Starting off it was a breeze! I was so lucky because I know so many people have difficulty getting started. Not here it was so easy but then got harder. I feel like if it was reversed maybe I would have lasted longer. I made it breastfeeding just over 3 months. And I am super proud about that!! I have poor circulation and it caused me pain every time a feeding was over L I’m working hard on getting my body more fit eternally, not just looking good on the outside. I am hoping that for baby #2 I will not endure the same pain. Because of this pain I worked my way to being an exclusive pumper. WOOF!

It is so much work to plan times to pump every day for at least 20 minutes and work on keeping up supply and demand from your little one! I truly enjoyed pumping more than breastfeeding only because of the pain but honestly I got lazy on keeping my pump schedule. Mommas who work and pump I bow at your feet!!! You must be wonder woman!! Anyways I was good for a while and was building a small freezer stash but nothing to be super excited about because those got used when I had to have a baby sitter! I just couldn’t get ahead of the game. Around 3.5 or 4 months my supply was pathetic!! I’m talking 3 pumping sessions just to get 2-  5oz bottles! Needless to say I kinda gave up. No swelling or engorgement because my supply was sad. I didn’t give up without a fight tho! Check out my water logged post. I made myself sick trying to get my body to produce more. I even tried to breastfeed again but my boobs said no and that is when I moved on to formula.

Now I am not ashamed of this and those people who shame moms who used formula should get a swift kick in the rear. Sometimes it just isn’t the mommas fault. And the important thing is the baby is getting fed! I do believe in giving breast feeding or pumping a fair chance but if you can’t or it doesn’t work then you shouldn’t feel bad! I did for a bit but came to my senses when I knew I did what I could and my baby was still healthy!!

Leave me comments guys!!

Stocking Up, Baby Prepping

Okay baby prepping sounds a bit like dooms day prepping but let me tell you some pros and cons to this practice. Of course every mom wants to be prepped and ready to go for baby to come but don’t get to crazy. Sure you will more than likely get lots of the same things at your baby shower and that is great if it is things like diapers and baby lotion and soap. But if you are going out to stock up hear this first, don’t go crazy.Screen Shot 2017-04-04 at 6.56.41 AM

I have be asked before how much of certain items babies go through and really there isn’t a ton. They are small creatures, no reason to go out and make sure you have 5 baby soaps and lotions on deck. My suggestion is to have enough to make it through about 6-8 weeks. This gets you through your postpartum time. I personally use the classic johnson’s and aveeno. When it comes to diapers I personally like buying in bulk. I would suggest if you want to stock up getting one big box of size 1-3. You will definitely need more, trust me but you don’t want to end up with tons of diapers in the wrong size left over. I can happily say so far I have not had one leftover, wrong sized diaper. I got tons of newborn packs at my baby shower and depending on how big your baby was when they were born you may not need a ton of newborn size. My son was almost 9 pounds so we used a few packs of newborn but didn’t need a huge box.

Wipes are also something I always keep in bulk. If you make sure the refill pack is sealed then they last! I have never had a problem. HUGGIES Natural Care Baby Wipes are my personal favorite. I know I have said it before but I am not sponsored, I just really like huggies better than any other brand I have tried.

The only other thing I keep stocked up on is formula. I will share my experience with breastfeeding in another post. I wish I could have kept it up longer but I just wasn’t producing enough. I made it 4 months and had to start supplementing and eventually go to all formula feeding. Anyways.. Gerber Good Start Gentle Non-GMO Powder Infant Formula, Stage 1(Pack of 6) is what works best for my little man. I went through a lot of trial and error and then also searched every store and online outlet for the best deal, because formula is so expensive!! Amazon, tried and trusty, had the best deal plus free shipping! Also if you are going to use formula or if you are pumping you gotta make sure you have bottles! Dr. Browns makes my personal favorite bottle.

What do you stay stocked up on? Let me know what you think in the comments!
