Hospital packing list baby #2!

Hello friends! I know I have written this before with my first baby but I wanted to write an updated one for the second time around. Keep in mind it is always a good idea to ask your doctor what you need to pack. My hospital is really awesome and provides almost everything needed, I’m sure yours does too. No need to over pack!

  • Alright so you obviously need a duffle bag or small suitcase to pack everything into! I use this one I have from Lucky Brand.
  • In my bag I have packed a cute plaid shirt to go home in. It is a maternity shirt that buttons. I wanted to make sure I had something that fit, made me feel put together, and was breastfeeding friendly. You probably won’t leave the hospital looking like you did before you ever got pregnant so plan for a pooch still.
  • Granny panties. Really you just need some full coverage, comfy panties that can hold large pads during recovery.
I picked up this belly binder from amazon. Only 13$! This will help shrink your uterus and get your tummy back to its original size. As soon as I am in recovery I plan on putting this bad boy on!
A comfy nursing bra that can be slept in. I found mine on amazon for so cheap!
This time I packed some tall compression socks because last time my feet, ankles, and legs got soo swollen. It was very painful and looked horrendous. And hospitals are cold so better to be prepared lol.
  • I packed a set of pajamas that button up so I can be comfy in my own clothes after the IV’s come out and I get that first shower! Plus the buttons allow easy access for breastfeeding.
  • Lastly for myself I packed toiletries: toothbrush and toothpaste, shampoo and conditioner, hairbrush, skincare, light makeup, hair ties and my glasses.

Your hospital should provide giant pads, pain relief, ice packs, sitz bath, dermoplast, witch hazel pads… mine did, I literally didn’t need to bring anything, they even had mesh undies to wear. Some people hate them but I am all for not ruining anything of my own, use the hospitals! My hospital also fed me really well and the food was good so there was no need for bringing snacks!

For Baby:

  • I packed 2 outfits- one in newborn size and one 0-3m. Along with the outfits I packed matching bows. I know there will be lots of pictures!
  • I packed a swaddle for pictures and a thin muslin blanket for coming home.
  • Car seat

Other than clothes and a car seat you really have no need to pack other items. The hospital will have diapers, wipes, baby wash and lotion, anything you will need. And you get to bring all the extras home!

Extras:

  • Phone and phone charger
  • Camera
  • Donut pillow- giving birth makes it feel like your tail bone is broken. At least it did for me. I got a pillow specially for my poor bum.
  • Pillow- with your own unique case
  • Clothes for dad- if your husband or SO is anything like mine, make him pack his own bag! My husband over packs so much and it drives me crazy!

You can always keep some extras in your car if you really think you’ll need them.

Baby Things I Regret Buying

So I did not purchase all of these things, some of them I received of my registry. Live and Learn right?

So the first thing I regret getting and it literally sits in a drawer and that is these munchkin spoons. Screen Shot 2017-05-12 at 9.43.35 AMI am not saying they are awful but they just don’t work for me! They are flatter than other spoons and make feeding difficult. ESPECIALLY if you are trying to feed cereal. Way to runny and you get no food staying on the spoon.

Next is the munchkin suction bowls. Now let me first say that I use these bowls every single day. but I just don’t like that I can’t microwave and the suction portion doesn’t always work. Screen Shot 2017-05-12 at 9.47.23 AMAgain I love the design and the colors, I just wish they could be microwaved and suction better.

Okay next up is multiple nursing covers. I got one that I love that is a style of an infinity scarf. But I really used it maybe 4 or 5 times. I was never really in a situation where I was going to be flashing the world. And if I was then I would have used a blanket. I had multiple covers and it just wasn’t necessary.Screen Shot 2017-05-12 at 9.57.41 AM Maybe it is for you but just not for me!

So this next product I don’t necessarily regret buying but it doesn’t get much love at my house. I know some people use them every single day but that is just not going to happen in my world and that is the beloved pack n’ play. Screen Shot 2017-05-12 at 10.03.33 AMI have this particular one because it was not ungodly expensive. We did use it when Baby K was first born as his bassinet to sleep in our room. But when he turned about a month or 2 old he went to his crib and this bad boy was packed up and not for play. We literally only use it if we travel, which sadly isn’t very often.

Lastly is our Bumbo. Screen Shot 2017-05-12 at 10.07.10 AM          I loved this thing for a minute and then I got a high chair and I barely use this thing. I don’t really have a reason or use for it?! I want to love it so much but I just don’t now that I have a high chair.

What do you regret buying? I am so curious to know!!

What to Expect After Birth

The scary part is giving birth right? Nope, not in my opinion. The healing afterwards is way worse. There are definitely some things you can do to make it a little better though. As I have said before, take what you can and as much as you can from the hospital!! You just pushed a bowling ball out of your hoo-ha, of course you are gonna have some pain and recovery unless you are a super model with some super powers. In that case I applaud you. Things that make things a lot easier:

  1. //ws-na.amazon-adsystem.com/widgets/q?ServiceVersion=20070822&OneJS=1&Operation=GetAdHtml&MarketPlace=US&source=ac&ref=tf_til&ad_type=product_link&tracking_id=mommy409-20&marketplace=amazon&region=US&placement=B002MCD16O&asins=B002MCD16O&linkId=12d2d06368122ad0a3d637161b0e3121&show_border=false&link_opens_in_new_window=false&price_color=333333&title_color=0066c0&bg_color=ffffff Dermoplast cooling spray. Emphasis on the cooling. This stuff is bomb at relieving the stinging from stitches.
  2. Tucks Medicated Pads– Witch hazel pads keeps everything cool and clean. They will probably give you a small thing of these at the hospital and if you have any issues with your bum, this will make everything better.
  3. Carex Sitz Bath– These things look ridiculous but I tell you what they feel pretty great when you can’t do a lot of scrubbing down there. Trust me it’s cheap and helps the stitches heal up.
  4. Ibuprofen- for when everything still hurts.
  5. Mom Panties- Trust me you don’t want to ruin your nice skivvies, go to wally world and get you a pack of what I call mom panties. They are comfy and necessary to hold those jumbo pads from the hospital.

These are a few necessities from my experience. It isn’t that bad. They best thing I was told to prepare myself was that your butt is going to hurt. It feels like your tailbone got broken. But everything is worth it when you have your little!!!

Leave me comments about what you thought was necessary after birth!!

Pregnant Lady Must Haves

Being pregnant can be a wave of feelings and emotions and so much more. For myself I had the classic case of morning sickness during my first trimester and there is the itchy skin and weight gain and on and on.. There are things you can get that make life a little easier and better for the pregnant lady. My self these were my must haves that I suggest to every one of my pregnant friends. These items include things for while being pregnant and after baby comes! screen-shot-2017-03-06-at-9-26-45-am

  1. Bella B Tummy Honey Butter – 4 oz– This was my number one, absolute favorite product. I went through a couple jars of this stuff!! I would slather my belly and hips and then put on a thin cheap tank top and then get dressed for the day. I loved it so much because you will stay moisturized all day long. I hate reapplying and I am already the worst about moisturizing but I could put a little of this on every morning and still be super moisturized at the end of the day. I put the tank on just to keep my clothes from getting any of this balm on them.
  2. SEXYWG Women Waist Trainer Cincher Tummy Slimming Sport Belly Long Torso Corset and/or Goege Waist Trainer- postpartum – Of course you aren’t going to immediately put this guy on as soon as the baby is out but I really do love having this waist trainer to help get me back to where I want to be. The first one I listed is nice for under tighter clothing. I like it for if I am going out or wearing nicer clothes and the second is good for being around the house or with loose clothing.
  3. Restorology Full 60-Inch Body Pregnancy Pillow– Honestly I did make it through my pregnancy without one of these but I regret it. It was so difficult for me to go from a full fledged stomach sleeper to not being able to barely sleep on my side.
  4. Compression Socks – This one seems silly, but if you have even 25% of the swelling I did you will thank me. My legs, ankles, and feet swelled up to the point where I didn’t have shoes that would even go on! I was constantly taking short walks then elevating them and messaging them. It took quite a while to get the swelling to go away.
  5. Belly Band – black – This was my favorite thing and saved me sooo much money! I didn’t buy maternity clothes. I wore my regular jeans until I was about 7 months pregnant. The belly band allows you to wear your regular jeans you already own. It is amazing!
  6. Franato Seamless Maternity Legging– When you do get to that point where you unfortunately have to get atleast one pair of pants that fit, I went with these. I am just a lover of leggings as it is. I would wear them everyday if socially acceptable. Plus if they are toooo big you can always wear them after the baby as well. I do!

Share in the comments what your must haves are and if you gave any of these a try!

xoxo Erin

I am not sponsored by any of these products, I genuinely liked them myself and share my honest opinion with you. And yes I really do buy everything off of amazon!

Fitness After Baby

Getting back in shape is probably in the back of every pregnant ladies mind. It can be difficult and stressful and just plain hard! After all you just spent the last 40 or so weeks growing a human and then brought it into the world. That is a miracle and not everyone has a supermodel experience where they are back to perfect shape and feeling great right after birth. And I am right here with you to get back to the pre-baby body or just get in better shape. I am going to share my journey with you and share easy workouts and yummy food that can help you along the way!

I have the personal goal to lose 25 pounds by memorial day weekend. That weekend will be the first time me and my husband go back to the beach where we met and bring baby Knox with us! There are also a few other couples going so I just don’t want to be super out of shape when I sit on the beach with one of my best friends who is in great shape! That is my motivation.

So I invite you to join this journey with me!

First I go on a mile walk/jog with baby (in the stroller of course) around my neighborhood to get my heart rate up.

My favorite exercise is squats. I know I am insane. So I have been using my baby to workout with as my weight. While holding baby to center/chest I do 3 sets of 30 squats and 3 sets of 30 lunges

I then do 10 minutes of jump rope. I got a weighted one off of amazon for my husband so I use that.

Then do 40 crunches

30 jumping jacks

30 crunches

15 push ups

30 second wall-sit

15 push ups

This combo gives an overall full body workout and you will really feel it mainly in your legs! Hope you enjoy this workout. I will definitely bring you more workouts in the near future. Please leave me comments on your favorite workouts and if you enjoyed this one!
