How I pumped over 450oz in 1 month!

Hello friends! A month ago I gave birth to the perfect little girl. From those first moments of trying to breastfeed we had issues. She just wouldn’t latch well and it caused me intense pain. The first night we were home from the hospital I just couldn’t take it anymore. Just know that breastfeeding shouldn’t cause you serious pain. That night, after attempting to feed and getting mad at my husband and the baby I said I just couldn’t do it. I didn’t want to give up but being angry and tired and in pain was not a sustainable way to live. I immediately pulled out my pump and decided to start pumping exclusively. This is just the inside freezer. Our deep freeze is filled with target bags full of milk!

As soon as I made that decision I felt a weight lifted and was immediately happier. I could feed my baby, still give breast milk, and my husband could help out more. Also formula is very expensive so being able to save money was a huge plus. So over the past month I have been able to pump enough for baby to eat all day/night and store up a stash of over 450oz!! Here is exactly what I do and what works for me.

  • Water water water! I’ll get this one out of the way because it’s the most obvious. I drink a minimum of 16oz each time I pump. Pumping makes me super thirsty. I keep a 32oz jug with me and drink all day and night.
  • Pumping of course. Get a good pump, I use the Medela pump in style. I also purchased a car adapter so I could never miss a pump. I pump every 3 hours around the clock. I set alarms to go off on my watch so I’m always aware. I know it seems like a lot but pumping takes a major commitment. For me it’s easy to remember 12, 3, 6, 9 for the times I pump. It also helps to use some lanolin on the flanges to make pumping more comfortable.
  • I drink one body armor drink everyday. Some people claim it boosts milk supply. I find that it helps break up the water drinking with something flavorful. They taste amazing and have milk boosting ingredients like coconut water.
  • I eat oatmeal each morning. It’s filling, helps milk production and I think it helps with weight. I made tons of lactation cookies with my first baby and found that I couldn’t lose weight and even gained and so I was not letting that happen this time.
  • Sunflower lecithin. I ordered mine on amazon. This is supposed to have some great health benefits and also helps prevent mastitis. I would suggest, if you get the liquid form, to just take a spoonful and not mix it in food or smoothies. It is a thickening agent and it can ruin your smoothie or food in my opinion.

Peace, Love, and Boxy!

It’s that time of the month again! April 2019 boxycharm box. So yesterday was my birthday, so it feels like a gift to get my box! Also I know I’ve been gone a while but I just had a baby and life with a newborn and a 2 year old is exhausting. I will be uploading my birth story soon and much more.

Here we go!

In my box I received the Appeal cosmetics holographic lip gloss. This will be a great lip topper because I own so many matte lippies that I could use a little shine! MSRP 21$

Lastly I got a bodyography eye pencil. It feels a bit stiff but further testing will confirm whether or not that is the case. MSRP 14$

Over all this box is so bomb! I can’t wait to play with the palette and glow to heaven with the highlighter!!

Boxycharm After Glow: Feb 2019

Hey friends! It’s that time again! I just got my boxy box in and I wanna unbox it with you!!

First I got a Too Faced Better than sex mascara. This mascara is amazing!! I have loved it for years and I’m so glad to have a fresh one. Retails for 24$

Next I got the Pretty Vulgar shimmering swan highlight. This highlight gives a natural, beautiful glow to the face but can be built up. It’s so pretty! Retail is 32$

Up next everyone got the Touch In Sol no poreblem primer. This primer is so soft and silky and blurs any skin issues you may have. Retails for 18$

I also received the Farmacy Clean Bee ultra gentle facial cleanser. This cleanser is formulated with naturally derived ingredients and soothe and hydrate skin while deep cleaning the skin. Retails for 22$

Lastly I received a Trestique prime and glaze lip crayon. This lip duo features a primer on one end and a shiny color glaze on the other. I’m excited to try this out since I don’t do shiny lips often. Retails for 25$

If you added that up you see I got 121$ worth of products! That’s 100$ over what I pay! Such a great deal and a much better box than I’ve received in the past!

New Year, New Me?!

Such a cheesy saying I know. But a new year typically marks the start of changes we want to make. Whether we want to be more confident, thinner, more fit, less debt.. and so on. Today I am 28w4d pregnant. Fully in my third trimester and ready for everything this year is going to bring me.

Today I started the 30 days to healthy living (30dhl) challenge and I honestly couldn’t be more excited. I plan on sharing a little more of my pregnancy journey as well as my fitness and nutrition journey. I know this will be a huge year.

I wanted to explain the 30dhl a little bit because I realized many people had the wrong idea of what it is. First I would like to mention I have been studying health/nutrition for many years and have my master’s in public health. These aren’t just opinions, I will be stating facts. The program is not a lose weight quick fad diet, tho you can lose weight. You don’t have to work out tho physical activity will help you reach results and is always a good idea for your heart health. This program focus on detoxifying your body and teaching you how to FUEL your body with proper nutrition. Quick healthy delicious meal:

Turkey skillet:

1lb ground turkey

Half an onion

2 sweet potatoes

Salt and pepper

Cilantro

Directions: peel and cube up the sweet potatoes and toss in a large skillet with a little olive oil. Cook till they can be pierced with a fork. Add onion and turkey and cook till turkey is cooked through. Add salt and pepper to taste. Add cilantro to finish. Sooo easy and delicious!! And healthy!!!

Motivation Monday

As most of you know, last Saturday I had a traumatic experience that left me super upset and ashamed of the way I looked. So last Monday I started a diet and began to revamp my exercise routine. I have to say so far it is going really well. I’ve studied nutrition all through school and knew what I needed to do but making a change when I’ve never had to workout or eat super healthy before was going to be a challenge. I am so proud of myself so far. I have committed to making smoothies for breakfast and lunch. I also eat boiled eggs and nuts for snacks if I get hungry in between meals. I drink a gallon of water a day, or as close as I can get to. For dinner I make some sort of lean protein with a salad. I have had no alcohol, pop, or juice. I have done very well by not cheating as well. This weekend I relaxed a bit because we ate out and went to friends for dinner. I obviously did not restrict them to cooking what I could eat.

I feel as though I can begin to see slight changes. I feel my clothes beginning to loosen up just a bit. I am so excited and no way will I be giving up on this. I definitely want a rocking bod for my honeymoon.

Stay motivated loves! Staying committed is the best way to reach your goals. Keep things interesting and mix up foods and workouts so that you don’t get bored!

Liquid Diet: Yes or No?

Okay So I am not doing a 100% completely liquid diet but as I talked about in my previous post I just find it very difficult to eat fruits and veggies and meat. I primarily eat carbs- eekkk I know! So for this diet I am cutting out majority of carbs and bumping up my fruit, veggie, and protein intake. I am also revamping my workouts. Another part to mention about my new diet is to drink 128oz of water a day to help detox the liver and body. Be careful! You know if you have been around that I have actually given myself water poisoning so don’t go toooo crazy with the water! Aim for at least 80oz to start, especially if you are not a water person. It can be difficult to drink enough!FullSizeRender(11) So far the diet is going very well!! I wanted to share a smoothie that is very healthy! Only 153 calories per serving. The recipe makes two. Of course depending on your protein and liquid choices, the calories may change. I use a 100% whey protein in vanilla and it is sweetened with stevia instead of sugar from GNC (their brand).

Carrot Cake Smoothie, 2 servings:

  • 1/2 C. carrot juice
  • 1 frozen banana
  • 3/4 C. almond milk ( I use vanilla and unsweetened)
  • 1 scoop of protein powder
  • 1/4 tsp. cinnamon
  • 5 ice cubes

So Tasty!!

So far my 70% liquid diet is a total YES! it is going so well. If I get hungry in between smoothies I eat a boiled egg or a salad with very light dressing.
